Ghanaian Club Attacker Killed in Armed Bus Attack

Ghanaian attacker Dominic Frimpong was killed after armed robbers attacked his team's bus on their return from an away match on Sunday, the Ghana Football Association announced on Monday. Berekum Chelsea FC, which competes in the Ghana Premier League, said in a statement that 'masked men carrying pistols and shotguns' fired shots at the team bus, forcing the players to take shelter in the bushes. According to the Ghanaian police, the attack occurred on the Ahireso-Kwame Duomor Srisso road in the Nyanhin district of the Ashanti region. Police added that the 20-year-old Frimpong was shot and died in the hospital while receiving treatment. A police statement also said that 'another victim, George Osu Afriyie (52 years old), was robbed of 4,500 Ghanaian cedis (408 US dollars)'. The Ghana Football Association described the incident as 'tragic' and 'a great loss to Berekum Chelsea FC and to Ghanaian football as a whole'. The association said in a statement: 'Dominic was a young and talented player who, with his dedication and passion for the game, embodied the spirit of our league'. Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from the Adw Stars club at the beginning of the year. He played 13 matches and scored 2 goals for the club, according to local media.
